Access Slow ? 56Kbps MODEM SPEED PROBLEMS

Most of "Internet Access slow"
problems relate to your ISP or the web site
you are trying to access. Please note in
many cases your HIGRADE DREAM PC will be
working fine and the problem may lie with
your internet connection. We have listed
here some basic checks : 1. The "Server
speed " (i.e internet link to that
server) of the www.any-server-name.com that
you are accessing could be slow or That
particular web site might be handling too
many users or may be running slow at that
moment. 2. The "Download speed"
set by the opposite server/site where you
are connecting to may be limited by the
site manager to 2-4Kbps to allow more customers
to download from the site simultaneously.
So even though your modem speed is 56Kbps
you can generally download files only at
2KBps-4Kbps speed (**subject to your Internet
Service provider) Since the internet is
a shared resource, peak timings show slower
speeds. You can try to use the services
of a particular web site service at off-peak
hours, i.e 10pm or later to make sure that
your hardware & modem is working fine.
3. Internet connectivity requires good quality
telephone Lines and wiring connections for
faster speeds: If there is something wrong
with your phone line? - The modem may not
handshake (connect) reliably, or may be
slow, or may drop out (loose connection)
often. - Try plugging a handset phone into
the modem connection and dialing the modem
line. You should hear a squeal (like a fax)
over the phone, if number is correct (or
the busy tone). If you hear plenty of static
or interference, then this can stop your
modem from connecting properly to the ISP.
If so, remove any phone extensions or extra
phones/faxes on the same line, as they can
draw current away from the modem resulting
in a poor signal. Other interference can
be caused by storms, solar flares, or faulty
wiring. If connection or drop out problems
persist, lower the speed of your modem (try
33600,14400 or 9600 bps). 4. Lowering connect
speed with 56Kbps or K56flex/V.90 modems
to improve connection. Many 56K modem owners
have found that they can reduce disconnects
by setting a limit on the initial connect
speed. The commands for controlling maximum
connect speed are different for Rockw ell
(connexant)-based and Lucent-based 56K modems
